The International Law study program aims to provide a range of modules that will form the basis of information and advanced knowledge on International Law matters for the purpose of training students the basic legal professions related to this field by providing solid knowledge, the specific and systematic institutes and concepts of International Law and on the situation and their prospects in the region and world.

The Diploma of the study program will enable PhD students to conduct scientific research work in the field of International law sciences, as well as teaching at universities in the country and abroad and also will actively be involved in the process of strengthening the resources of government activities in terms of the country's Euro-Atlantic integration process.

Knowledge and understanding

- Has solid knowledge of the disciplines from the field of international law including the Law of the international organizations, human rights, international public law, international private law, international criminal law, international economic law and international relations;
- Has deep knowledge of advanced techniques and methods of research in the field of international law.

Applying knowledge and understanding

- Interprets in a critical way the theories of international law and relevant cases from practice;
- Applies theoretical knowledge in practical situations that arise in the field of international law as the protection of human rights, diplomacy, disputes and collision of laws including negotiations and mediation;
- Synthesizes the gained knowledge and applies it in specific circumstances;

Making judgement

- Has more critical thinking through methods of analyzing and comparing.
- Develops skills for solving problems through practice of solving more complex cases from domestic and international jurisdictions and practices. 

Communication skills

- Utilizes proper terminology for complex and specific issues in the area of international law sciences.
- Is actively involved in research based legal argumentation and debate.
- Utilizes the official languages of the University as well as more advanced computer skills in the research work.

Learning skills

- Develops a regulation of research which is used in their profession.
- Creates a practice of lifelong learning and service through being involved in training persons that work in the state institutions of crime prevention.

Semester 1

  • [DLAW0101] [10 ECTS] Research Methodology
    This course is designed for students who are preparing to carry out a doctoral thesis project. The main objective of the course is to offer students tools for conceptualising their thesis regarding their research issue and the creation of data collection methods and qualitative analysis. The course is focused on problems of the quantitative methods and techniques, such as statistical analysis, texts related to theory and testing hypotheses. Then, the meaning and topics of descriptive and causal inference are of a great importance, longitudinal comparative research and case study. Advanced information data collection will be offered for working with text. The goal is to analyse the quality of data and incorporate all theoretical and practical performances in the function of designing and writing the thesis.
  • [DIL0102] [10 ECTS] International Public Law - Depth Program
    The course consists of study of cases in public international law, and includes some practical work in the respective institutions, which may include research of students in groups.
  • [DIL0103] [10 ECTS] International Private Law - Depth Program
    Through this module, students will gain advanced knowledge of legal resources to be applied to regulate the civil-legal relations with foreign element (national and international) and mode of regulation of civil-legal relations with foreign element (direct and indirect) that is characteristic only for this module) and the general elements and joint formation and implementation of the IPL by the facts that show foreign elements (facts of identification), and connection points through which the application of merita law in IPL is avoided.

Semester 2

  • [DIL0104] [10 ECTS] Review and Approval of the Doctoral Dissertation Plan
    After the first semester, the student begins his/her activities for the development of the plan on his/her doctoral dissertation. Activities include the definition of literature, defining hypothetical framework, the definition of the work methodology and determination of the individual plan as well as the first public presentation.

Semester 3/4

  • [PHD-S3-S4-01] [40 ECTS] Scientific Research Work
    In the second year (semester 3 and 4) the candidate continues with research activity according to the approved individual plan. The mentor provides assessment on these activities in the form of a report addressed to the Scientific-Teaching Council of the Faculty.
  • [PHD-S3-S4-03] [20 ECTS] Publications I
    Publication of research activities under the table relevant to the media for publication. Publication activities and successes of the candidate are checked before scientific audience by their field and relevance of the research.

Semester 5

  • [DIL0105] [20 ECTS] Presentation of Research Results
    At the end of the 5th semester, after the research activities according to the individual plan, the candidate will publicly present the overall results of this phase of the paper and the research.
  • [PHD-S5-01] [10 ECTS] Publications II
    Publication of research activities under the table relevant to the media for publication. Publication activities and successes of the candidate to be checked before scientific audience according to the fjeld and relevance of the research.

Semester 6

  • [IL-PhD-THESIS] [30 ECTS] Doctoral Dissertation
    Continuum of the work of the doctoral dissertation. The thesis (dissertation) is submitted; it is then accepted by the Scientific-Teaching Council of the Faculty and then submitted to the committee members; the procedure for the public defence of the thesis begins.
