bringing knowledge to life!

A successful year for SEEU

“An important component to be successful in an educational environment such as ours, is the commitment to be international university”, said in his speech during the traditional meeting with the media, the Rector of the SEE University, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, which was held on Friday (27.12. 2013).

“Today, shortly we will recall the events that already are registered in the calendar of events in order not to forget the same ones, in this occasion we will emphasize the events that await us in the year in which we are about to enter. Standards that we have set include the quantity and quality level of knowledge and skills that students need to achieve during their studies. Therefore, in this context there are numerous events that we have organized, which have left traces as a good omen for students and staff.” said Rector Dika.

“In this academic year (2013-2014), in 15 study programmes in the first cycle, 26 study programmes in the second cycle and 12 study programmes in the third cycle, 15% more students applied than in previous year. This year, with the support of the Federal Government and the Ministry of Education and Science, we managed to accredit three study programmes that are realized in direct cooperation with local companies in the field of management and information technologies. These programmes are designed in accordance with the most successful model of such programmes in the Europe - those of "Dual University Studies" in Germany. We have additionally opened the Technological Park, the first of its kind in Macedonia. Now four companies are functioning there, and together they create with us our IT certification programme.

Let me share with you another trend that marked the twelfth anniversary of the university. In this academic year, at South East European University, nearly 30% of students have chosen to study in English-language programmes, including the English Language and Literature programme. Every university in the world, where the native language is not English, would be proud to reach this figure of studies in English. For me, this fact presents a signal: the higher education market and the economy are globalized, and the competitive desire of our youth from the Western Balkans is becoming a challenge for all of us in academic world. In this time of financial crisis and slow economic development, we must optimize cash strategies, yet we have managed to finance development projects, with our financial source.” said Rector Dika.

Speaking about own SEEU investments RectorDika, said “we officially have increased capacities and our academic offer in Skopje, with an investment of 700.000 euro. Within the framework of the Institute for Environment and Health—and our objectives to implement the Climate Action Plan—we invested 200,000 euro to build and operate a photovoltaic plant for the production of electric power”.

For the future plans rector Dika, said “we will continue to increase scientific research - Horizon 2020, we will continue with international review of our study programmes, we will continue to promote our integrated study programmes.”

The Rector’s Advisor for Public Relations and Communication, Demush Bajrami thanked journalists for their work and fair information that they have made for our University.

“This year at our University, there were numerous events, I want to thank the medias representatives, that have followed us in every step.” said Bajrami.
