During the meeting, Rector Ibraimi expressed his gratitude for the continuous support that the Embassy and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have provided to the University over the years, emphasizing the key role of the Dutch Government in the establishment and institutional development of SEEU.
“Our University is a success story of the International Community and, above all, of Government,” Rector Ibraimi stressed, highlighting the strategic contribution of international partners in building a unique model of higher education in the country.
In the context of current developments in higher education, the Rector underlined that the University’s priority remains preserving its sui generis status within the higher education system of North Macedonia, as a distinctive model founded on the principles of multiethnicity, academic autonomy, and international cooperation. He added that SEEU continues to welcome diplomats and international representatives, with whom it has built sustainable partnerships and ongoing support.
The meeting also addressed concrete projects currently being implemented, as well as opportunities to further deepen cooperation in the future in areas of mutual academic and developmental interest.
Rector Ibraimi informed Ambassador Canel about the preparations underway to mark the 25th anniversary of the University’s establishment, a jubilee to be celebrated this year with numerous academic and institutional activities.
Both sides agreed that SEEU represents a distinctive and successful model of higher education in North Macedonia and the wider region. The University has not only remained sustainable after the exhaustion of international funding, but has also continued to develop—both in terms of academic and quantitative growth, and even more importantly, in strengthening its overall systemic quality.
