South East European University observed the 12th anniversary of its establishment

On Wednesday, 20th November 2013, in a solemn ceremony, SEEU observed its 12th anniversary, in the presence of numerous guests from other universities: the Minister of Education of Macedonia, Spiro Ristovski; the Mayor of Municipality of Tetova, Teuta Arifi; representatives of the diplomatic corps; professors and students.

Part of this celebration was the awarding of the Doctorate Honoris Causa to Prof. Dr. Francesco Altimari. This ceremony was followed by the awarding of doctoral degrees to the university graduates, doctors of sciences of the generation 2012/13.

Summing up the achievements, the Rector of SEEU, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, remarked: “In 2001, among the numerous holidays in November, our university also arose; by its nature, reason and manner of establishment, SEEU announced the establishment of a progressive institution in terms of higher education in transitional countries. This investment is deeply embedded in the internationalization of a visionary university such as ours, because today, internationalization is the key word of each university that extends its ambitions towards a global scale.”

The Minister of Education of Macedonia, Spiro Ristovski, then mentioned: ‘Currently, for 12 years this university had proved itself to be one of the most respected universities in Macedonia and region, which has the vision for qualitative cadre’s education through qualitative teaching and development of scientific research activities’.

The President of the SEEU Board, Dr. Dennis Farrington, noted that “One of the main elements of our mission from the beginning has been to contribute to the provision of higher education in the Albanian language. We all know how successful that has been and we should be proud of our achievement. However, that was not the only reason for our foundation. Our aims are not to make money as a business, but to help to improve the quality of higher education in the Republic, by bringing in genuine expertise from other parts of Europe and from the United States and by providing opportunities for staff to develop their skills abroad.”

Prof. Dr. Francesco Altimari , the laureate of the Doctorate Honoris Causa, expressed his special pleasure for receiving this honor: "This is not only a recognition for me, but for the whole Arbreshes of Italy and a strong support from the South East European University for this important part of Albanian culture and language."

On the occasion of the 12th anniversary, a ‘giant’ cake was baked and shared with all staff and students.
