Inauguration of the photovoltaic solar array

On Wednesday (26/06/2013), at South East European University in Tetovo, the photovoltaic solar plant for the production of electric power from renewable resources was opened.

This ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Macedonia, Mr. Safet Neziri, and the Mayor of the Municipality of Tetovo, Ms. Teuta Arifi.

“The originality of this photovoltaic solar array is that it is realized in higher educational institution , which in accordance to our information, is the first of this type and this capacity in Macedonia and in the broader reagion. This not only a contribution for Tetovo, but for broader regions of the country as well. This project has more purposes because the panels cover a part of the parking lots for the vehicles. We wish in this way to contribute to capacity building for environmental protection and use of alternative energy sources”, said SEEU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika.

“SEE University's example should be followed by other universities in the country, as well as by other institutions and citizens, since in this way we contribute to the reduction of heating costs and the greater protection of the environment ", said Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Safet Neziri.

“It is an honour and pleasure for me not only as Mayor of Tetovo, but as well as former academic staff of SEEU, to be present at the solemn inauguration of the photovoltaic power plant, which will be used for the production of electricity using solar energy”, said the Mayor of the Municipality of Tetovo, Ms. Teuta Arifi.

The Solar plant will produce 125 megawatt hours of electricity annually for University needs. This is consistent with the SEEU Climate Action Plan 2020, where it envisions the SEEU campus to attain zero percent of carbon dioxide emissions.
