The Faculty of Law at SEEU contributes in the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2012-13

The Faculty of Law of SEEU largest contributor from a university in the Republic of Macedonia in the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2012-13

The Faculty of Law of SEEU made the largest contribution from a University in the Republic of Macedonia to the recently-published World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2012-13, Washington DC, funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Adnan Jashari, Besa Arifi, Sami Mehmeti and Dennis Farrington each made a contribution to the quantitative assessment tool designed by the WJ Project to offer a comprehensive picture of the extent to which 97 countries adhere to the rule of law, not in theory, but in practice. Based on their contributions, and those of a number of other academics and lawyers from Macedonia, the Rule of Law Index produced a generally favourable report for the country, drawing attention however to some matters of concern: delays in civil justice, limitations on the freedom of the press, and discrimination against marginalised groups.

‘This involvement of the Faculty of Law in a highly prestigious international project is an inspiration to both existing and potential students of the Faculty and shows how members of staff apply themselves to practical work of great value to the country’ said Prof Dr Dennis Farrington. A copy of the report has been sent to the Prime Minister, Mr Nikola Gruevski.
