The seminar was opened by Prof. Dr. Arta Mero, who emphasized the importance of empowering law students to address both digital and physical violence against women and girls. The event brought together students, academic and administrative staff, activists, partner organizations, and universities participating in ChallengeEU.
The event was also attended by the Rector of SEEU, Prof. Dr. Sadudin Ibraimi, the Vice-Rector for Planning, Research and Entrepreneurship, Prof. Dr. Veland Ramadani, and the Advisor for Community and International Relations, Prof. Dr. Besa Arifi, demonstrating the University’s institutional support in the fight against gender-based violence.
Five speakers presented key topics on the psychological impact of violence, the legal framework, femicide, the importance of support services, and the personal perspectives of survivors. On the topic “Rebirth as an Act of Resistance: A Personal and Academic Perspective on Violence Against Women,” activist and survivor Vilma Dule delivered a powerful presentation. “The Importance of Services for Preventing and Addressing Gender-Based Violence for Victims, Perpetrators, and Men and Boys in Crisis” was presented by Elizabeta Bozhinovska, Program Director at HERA. On “Psychological Impacts of Gender-Based Violence and Therapeutic Interventions for Victims,” Prof. Dr. Hana Saliu from the University of Tetova shared her insights. From SEEU’s Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Albana Metaj-Stojanova presented “Femicide: Chronicle of a Foretold Murder,” while Prof. Dr. Vedije Ratkoceri discussed “The Criminal Framework for Protection from Gender-Based Violence in North Macedonia and Alignment with International Standards.”
The role of the “Emine Zendeli” Legal Clinic was also highlighted, particularly in providing primary legal assistance to victims and in offering practical training to students.
The activity served as a strong reminder that preventing gender-based violence requires a joint commitment from institutions, universities, organizations, and students alike.
SEEU and ChallengeEU remain committed to being a strong voice in the defense of human rights.
