Eleventh edition of January staff training was held - Rector Bexheti: Synergistic inter-university cooperation a model to face the challenges

“Quality First” was the topic of the 11 th edition of the traditional staff training, which is being held from 22-24 January at the South East European University in Tetovo.

The training was declared opened by the Advisor for Quality Assurance, Prof. Dr. Veronika Kareva, who said that this form of training has become a hallmark of our institutional quality culture known not only at home but also in the wider region.

Rector of South East European University, Acad. Prof. Dr. Abdylmenaf Bexheti, initially informed the staff that besides the already traditional program content of the training, gatherings of this kind are also a good opportunity for the transparent accountability of the University management to all staff. With the motto in this journey - “Small steps in big challenges!” Rector Bexheti used the opportunity to thank all staff for the institutional commitment and joint successes that is achieved.

Speaking on the key topic, Rector Bexheti focused on several main pillars, which directly influence the sustainability and success of the institution, such as: current trends in higher education in Europe and internationally; quality as a strategic approach, the key role of technology in teaching; activities and challenges, higher education environment in the Republic of North Macedonia and emigration.

Regarding international trends in higher education, Rector Bexheti said that the main concern is the application of contemporary teaching methods and that the best model to meet challenges is the synergistic inter-university cooperation.

The current environment of higher education in RNM, Rector Bexheti evaluated as very challenging, even after one year from the adoption of the new Law on Higher Education, three main regulatory bodies are not established.

For the next steps of the University, academician Bexheti said that the vertical reconstruction has already been completed and that the need for four-year study programs has been noted by current students and already over 70% of them are enrolled in these studies.

In the future, SEEU will focus on offering new study programs, mainly in the field of applied technologies.

Immigration remains a serious threat and challenge for education institutions in RNM, which we cannot directly influence, but which we consider in all our projections as important factors for the future of the University.

Rector Bexheti emphasized that the increase in the number of scholarships has given concrete results and this year about 1/3 of the students enrolled in the first year are with excellent success GPA 5.00 from high schools. He thanked the staff for the contribution and commitment that this year the University marks an increase in the number of student enrollment, which this year is a four-digit number.

President of the University Board, Prof. Dr. Dennis Farrington spoke about the procedure for appointment of the new President of the University Board and replacement of other Board members. He thanked the Rector for his observation about the development of the University, in particular with regard to balanced budgeting.

Specialized trainings in teaching, management and performance were developed and were presented by: Pro-rector for Academic Planning , Prof. Dr. Vladimir Radevski, who presented the topic “State of Academic Affairs – (Academic Completion, New offer, Master studies,…etc)”; Pro-Rector for Research and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Besa Arifi and IMVS staff , Prof. Dr. Veli Kreci and Prof. Mennan Selimi, presented the topic “Project based research activities Policies, Procedures, Criteria Successful Stories to motivate others”; Quality Advisor Prof. Dr. Veronika Kareva presented for “Soft skills development and quality of teaching”; Edlira Palloshi, from the Research Office, presented topic for “Professional note taking and reporting; Prof. Artan Luma, presented for “Online security and cyber security”; while on “Internal control” presented Lirim Amiti- Internal Auditor; while for the topic “Transparency, mobbing and corruption in Higher Education”, presented Prof. Dr. Mentor Hamiti. For the topic “Organizational culture”, presented Prof. Dr. Izet Zeqiri. The first day of training ended with the topic “Development of critical thinking”, presented by Zeqir Zeqiri and Bujar Raufi.

On the second day of the following topics were presented: “Marketing Operation (based on experience, data and evidence)”, by Marketing & PR Adviser, Prof. Gadaf Rexhepi; “Staff engagement and commitment (Good and not so good examples)”, Pro-rector for Entrepreneurship, Prof. Dr. Besnik Fetai; “Contemporary lectures and student motivation”, by Prof. Brikena Xhaferi and Prof. Agim Poshka; “Techniques of Public Speaking”, by Prof. Demush Bajrami and Prof. Liljana Siljanovska; “Procurement Process: services and operation”, by Besnik Xheladini, Head of Legal and Procurement Service and Mentor Emini, Director of IT Service; “Social media in the workplace – advantages and disadvantages”, by Prof. Dr. Memet Memeti (Dean of CSS) and Prof. Dr. Ali Pajaziti; “Improving students’ social life on campus”, president of the Student Parliament, Arjon Fejzullahu, and Prof. Hajrulla Hajrullahu; Improving quality of MA and PhD studies (organizational and teaching aspect), by Prof. Dr. Adnan Jashari (Dean of Faculty of Law) and Prof. Dr. Lejla Abazi, Director of the Doctoral School; and “Creating Google forms”, by Prof. Jusuf Zeqiri.
