The Deputy Chief of the U.S. Embassy in Skopje, Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm, gave a lecture for SEEU students

On Friday (28 October 2016) at the Tetovo campus of South East European University, the Deputy Chief of U.S. Embassy in Skopje, Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm, gave a lecture for SEEU students on the topic of "U.S. Elections: Politics, Humans, Processes."

Deputy Chief Schweitzer-Bluhm explained the functioning of the US electoral system, how it is organized, how presidential campaigns are covered and what positions Americans elect on their Election Day in addition to the President.

She spoke about the vote and its importance according to the US states. It is not the size of the state that determines the weight of the vote, but the electoral system determines the distribution of the vote of the American citizen, said Mrs. Schweitzer-Bluhm.

“We believe in American democracy, and therefore we believe in the US electoral system. This system has proven to be functional for hundreds of years and it is based on the democratic values of our country”, she noted.

SEEU students showed their interest about the US presidential campaign, by comparing the American electoral system with Macedonian one, and analyzing the motivation of voters and the acceptance of results by the participants in the elections.

Prior to the lecture Deputy Chief Schweitzer-Bluhm was received by the Rector of SEEU, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, who briefed her about the course of higher education in Macedonia in general and, in particular, the new development strategy of SEEU. Mrs. Schweitzer-Bluhm stressed that the US Embassy continues to support SEEU.
