Deputy Prime-Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, at SEEU Skopje

On Thursday (22 January), at South East European University in Skopje, the Deputy Prime-Minister and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, had a meeting with students, professors, publicists and journalists.

The meeting was attended by the President of the SEEU Board, Prof. Dr. Dennis Farrington, the Rector of SEEU, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika and other members of the University management.

The SEEU Pro-Rector for International Relations, Prof. Dr. Blerim Reka, speaking about the importance of this visit to Macedonia and the presence of Mr. Thaçi at SEEU, described the Foreign Minister as a factor upon whom the political process in Kosovo will depend.

Participants in the debate asked the Deputy Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kosovo about the situation of Albanians here and in Kosovo, and commended the frequent visits by Albanian leaders from Albania and Kosovo into Macedonia. “Of course this is the result of the coordination of both governments in Kosovo and Albania, within the framework of fraternal and institutional cooperation, but as well as under the programme for taking care of Albanians in Macedonia, the Preshevo Valley and Montenegro. Today, we have agreed about two important decisions, a joint meeting of both Governments and cross-border movement only with ID, without requiring a passport”, said Thaçi.

During the debate at SEEU students asked Mr. Thaçi about the political situation in Macedonia and the representation of Albanians in the Government.

“Albanians here are over 30 percent and are not a minority, but a constituent nation. Any government that is against Albanians, at the same time is against the government of Macedonia; this country has no future without the cooperation or approval of Albanians. In relation with the Albanian issue, today we are better than ever and we should do our best to use this positive climate”, said Thaçi.

The Deputy Prime-Minister urged Albanian leaders in Macedonia to transfer their party headquarters to Skopje, to be near to the decision-making institutions of this state.
