Аims of study program:
- Acquiring knowledge about social works with individuals, families, groups and local communities who are at social risk or encounter social problems.
- Acquiring knowledge for overcoming social inequalities and contributing to vulnerable social groups.
- Acquiring knowledge for providing services without discrimination based on race, gender, ethnical background, religion, economic status, age, etc.
- Acquiring knowledge for creating social policies in the fields of social protection, social security, employment, education, housing, etc.
The study program will have a significant contribution in enabling students to develop innovative knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies in the field of social work and social policy. As such it will have a significant contribution in enabling students to build professional careers by gaining higher education qualifications in line with the needs of the labour market. For this reason, this program creates staff who will manage social services, with the right skills to to provide service tailored to meet the contemporary problems of individuals and society. In accordance with the strategies and programs at central and local level, in terms of strengthening the role of social centers and de-institutionalization, graduates of this program will respond to the needs for human capacities in these structures and system.
Knowledge and understanding
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the scientific field of study which is build on previous education including knowledge from theoretical, practical, comparative and critical conceptual perspectives in the field of study of social work and social policy and according to the appripriate methodology. Understands a specific field and recognizes current issues related to scientific research and new sources of knowledge in the social sphere. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of different theories and methodologies in social work and social policy.
Applying knowledge and understanding
Can apply knowledge and understanding in a way that demonstrates professional approach to work or profession. Demonstrates competencies to identify, analyze and solve problems faced by individuals, families, groups, local communities and other phenomena in the social field. Demonstrates ability to find and substantiate arguments within the framework of the field of study.
Ability to collect, analyze, evaluate and present information, ideas, concepts from the relevant data within the competencies of the social protection system. Makes proper assessment taking into account the personal, social, scientific and practical apects which a social worker should have. Ability to evaluate theoretical and practical issues, to give explanations for the causes and to choose the right solution.
Ability to communicate and discuss with professional and non- professional audiences about information, ideas, problems and solutions. Ability for independent participation with professional approach in specific, scientific and interdisciplinary discussions.

The purpose of this course is to provide students with knowledge and understanding of different scientific theories and methodologies. Initially the student will be introduced to the conceptual, theoretical definitions and examples of all existing methods of research, hypothesis, direct and indirect variables, validation of the results, the conclusions BIAS and scientific qualitative and quantitative methodologies, "ground research" methodology and other methodological approaches. In each chapter the student will work on practical assignments. After completing the course the student will be able to explain thoroughly and understand the importance of basic scientific concepts, effectively search and find information-relevant literature, identify, describe and formulate scientific problems, make a careful choice of alternative research approaches, thoroughly describe, compare and explain the advantages and disadvantages of different scientific methods for collecting quantitative and qualitative data, apply basic scientific methods to analyze quantitative and qualitative data, understand different frameworks for building theory and review and evaluate scientific publications.

[EM495] Social Work and Health Care
To gain knowledge about the theoretical and practical experience of implementing social protection. Students should be able to analyze and discuss modern approaches of protecting clients and to enable them to implement it.
[CM141] Labor Law and Labor Relations
Labor Law is a separate and independent legal discipline in the legal system. The basic subject of study and arrangement is the employment relationship itself. The course syllabus "Labor Law" consists of two parts: Part One - General and Basic Issues of Labor Law and Part Two - Labor Relations. The first part covers general-theoretical questions such as: subject, definition, meanings, and place in the legal system, characteristics, and relation to labor law with other legal disciplines, development, domestic and international sources. In addition to the introductory remarks, in this section considerable attention is paid to the collective agreements and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

To acquire advanced and specific knowledge about the social conditions in which education institutions develop. To communicate their understanding of these conditions and societal changes from educational research either orally or in written form; Doing small studies through: 1. Preparing relevant research questions; 2. Making studies; 3. Collecting and analyzing data in educational and social environments; 4. Presenting results in short research reports.
[EM498] Preventive and Social Work
To gain in-depth knowledge of prevention as the basic and best ways of protection against mental disorders, behavioral disorders and other types of psychosocial problems, the methods and principles of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. To gain knowledge about the role of social services in the preparation and implementation of the preventive programs, creation of preventive programs, inclusion of non-professionals in preventive activities.
[EM499] Protection of Children
To gain in-depth knowledge about the legal aspects of children's protection (socio-political and normative-institutional aspect), focusing on the basic rights of children set out in the international and domestic legislation, as well as the mechanisms for their protection.
[EM500] Conflict Resolution
Advanced knowledge of a scientific approach to the peaceful resolution of conflicts through modern methods. To get acquainted with the tools and activities related to conflict prevention, where students will be able to timely discover the possible sources. Acquiring adequate knowledge for active participation in peacekeeping processes, as well as preparing strategy and tactics for successful negotiation skills in the negotiation process. Implement a special methodology of strategy and tactics to the negotiation process.
[EM501] Economics of Social Policy
Introducing the basic economic categories which are important for understanding economic and social processes. To gain knowledge and experience in linking the economy and the social system and the impact on social relations and policies.
[EM502] Basics of Crisis Interventions in Social Work
To gain in-depth knowledge of the basic principles of methods of clinical social work, as well as the basic psychosocial problems faced by patients who need hospitalization and the needs of their families. To gain knowledge about the social factors that influence the health, approaches and methods of social work with people with different health problems in the institutional and non-institutional health care, as well as acquiring knowledge about the health problems as a consequence of stress.
[EM503] Social Work in Organizing the Community
Students get scientific and in-depth knowledge about the contribution of social work in planning, organizing, developing and strengthening the local community.
[EM504] Social Work with People with Special Needs
Students gain unbiased knowledge about the theoretical and practical experience of implementing social care. Students should be able to analyze and discuss modern approaches to protect users and to enable them to implement it.
[EM505] Poverty and Social Work
To get scientific and in-depth knowledge about the phenomenon of poverty and social exclusion and to gain knowledge about analyzing the problems and measures that are taken for their resolution.
[EM506] Analysis and Design of Questionnaires
The objective of the course is to focus on two general approaches to data analysis, namely, quantitative and qualitative. In terms of quantitative analysis, it focuses on the use of statistical analysis; in terms of qualitative analysis in which it is defined as those approaches that do not include quantitative approaches - or approaches that do not use numerical manipulation. Also, this course will analyze and present case studies, research methods, parts of social research, approaches to research design, implementation of empirical design, and multivariate analysis.
[EFIN0104] Public Finances
Students are provided with knowledge of public finance as one of the main roles of macroeconomic policy and fundamental instruments to the functioning of a national economy as a whole and as a subsystem of an economic system of the country. Students acquire knowledge of public good and costs for their provision, externalities, the distribution of public revenue, allocation and reallocation of revenue, comparative aspects of public finance in developed countries and those in transition, the specifics of the fiscal system of Macedonia, their trends and challenges, fiscal decentralization, etc. Acquisition of professional knowledge about the budget and extra-budgetary funds as the main instruments of fiscal policy, procedures about preparation, elaboration, composing, approval, implementation and controlling of the budget, as well as budgeting techniques at the local and central level.
[EM507] Work Searching Strategies
The course is designed to encourage students in the process of early planning and career development. The process involves deep self-analysis, research of career planning and monitoring of preliminary strategies for employment, etc. The philosophy of the course is that this process is ongoing, systematic and aims at a life filled with work which is part of the overall plan for personal development.
[EM508] Leadership and Learning
The course aims to enable students to identify how leaders and managers are developing and implementing the achievement of the mission and vision in a given public sector organization; developing the values required for long-term success and their application through appropriate activities and habits; how leaders and managers are personally involved in providing assurance that the systems for managing the organization will be developed and implemented. It also informs them about how the organization accomplishes its mission and vision through a clear strategy based on the views of all interested parties, supported by all relevant policies, plans, goals and processes.
[CM144] Planning of Social Development
Students acquire knowledge about scientific achievements in the field of social development, the importance and the need for the dynamics of social development, its forms, methods and areas of expression, compilation, planning and competencies.
- [EM495] Social Work and Health Care
This module enables students to transfer their skills and knowledge to research and carry out more complex tasks related to their master thesis. The module is designed to be fully practical and students to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to approach writing the thesis. The module has unique return result-to enable students to write the master thesis with minimal difficulties, and with maximum efficiency. The course aims to improve research techniques and style of writing the paper, taking into account the prevention of the usage of illegal means, such as plagiarism and infringement of copyright, which are prohibited by the Statute of SEEU.
