Participants from 25 countries from 5 continents discussed a range of issues around institutional autonomy and the role of faculties and deans in 'the University of the future.' SEEU was the only university in the region to be invited, represented by the President of the Board, Prof Dr Dennis Farrington. Among other matters discussed were the governance, design of the curriculum, quality assurance, etc of new forms of integrated study programmes, common in Germany and soon to be adopted in SEEU. As these programmes are part of a general trend towards closer cooperation between universities, industry and commerce, they can be used as case studies in research into the future operating models of higher education. Currently they are highly successful in securing graduate employment and benefitting the private sector partners. The results of the conference will be published, and circulated to relevant stakeholders internationally.
