Discussions were on four themes: (i) the university as an inclusive and responsive institution, (ii) universities as research institutions, (iii) governing and managing complex institutions - new challenges in higher education: impact and institution response, (iv) global outreach - Europe's interaction with the wider world. During the meeting the representatives of the universities from R Macedonia, led by the Rector of St Kliment Ohridski University Bitola as President of the Rector's Conference, sent a formal written protest to EUA at the use of the acronym 'FYROM' in the Convention materials rather than the constitutional name of R Macedonia. A formal response from the Board of EUA is awaited and will be published when it is received.
