The exhibition "Pollution Painting - Tetova" opens at the Tetova Art Gallery

The two-day exhibition entitled "Pollution Painting - Tetovo" opened today at the premises of the Tetovo Art Gallery, which brought together students, professors, personalities of art and culture, as well as representatives from the University of Birmingham. The exhibition was organized by the Max van der Stoel Institute of the South East European University.

The exhibition was declared open by the Pro-Rector for International Cooperation and Research at South East European University, Prof. Dr. Besa Arifi, who emphasized that air pollution is not a topic that is usually presented as a work of art, but thanks to the commitment of SEEU students and professors from the University of Birmingham, today we have a powerful exhibition that conveys clear messages about citizen awareness of air pollution.

At the opening of the exhibition, the floor was also given to the Mayor of Tetova, Mr. Bilall Kasami, who thanked the organizers and offered concrete cooperation with the Max van der Stoel Institute, with the aim of finding sustainable solutions that will affect the reduction of air pollution in the city.

The Director of the Max van der Stoel Institute, Prof. Dr. Veli Kreci, also addressed the attendees with a greeting, stating that a wonderful job has been done, and the cooperation between the project partners and the students has been at the highest possible level.

The exhibition presents a unique fusion of science, art and environmental awareness. Through an advanced documentary photography technique and a special LED light device, real-time data on PM2.5 air pollution in Tetovo has been transformed into impressive visual images, reflecting the impact of pollution in an artistic and emotional way.

The project is a collaboration between South East European University (SEEU) and the University of Birmingham, with support from UK Research and Innovation.

Lejla Ademi, Vlera Ismaili and Albinota Nuredini also spoke about their experience in this project, sharing their creative and research journey with the public as part of the exhibition.

The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to reflect on environmental challenges through art, highlighting the intersection of scientific research and creative expression. It aims to raise awareness about air pollution – one of the most pressing problems facing the city of Tetovo and beyond.

The exhibition will be open to visitors until May 29, 2025.
