"We are the only ones in the country and probably in the region that in the academic year 2020-21, that have realized increase in the total number of enrolled students, although the increase is symbolic 2-3%, but very important at the time when all trends are decreasing, like those of demographics, increasing immigration and increasing preference to study abroad. We have enrolled 1015 students this year and we have rejected 89 applicants for doctoral studies." said Rector Bexheti.
Rector Bexheti thanked the academic and administrative staff, who showed commitment and professionalism that SEEU successfully closed last academic year in conditions of the Pandemic COVID -19. Pandemic COVID -19 proved that South East European University with its academic capacity, infrastructure and staff very quickly adapted to the new conditions created and immediately from teaching with physical presence switched to online teaching.
"We have completed successfully the last academic year and this year we have successfully implemented a hybrid teaching system, where 80% of students have attended the physical teaching and learning process and only 20% have followed the process online, at real time. This shows that the University promotes successful and hard-to-reach models for well-known international universities" said at the press conference the SEEU Rector Acad. Prof. Dr. Abdylmenaf Bexheti.
Another important aspect that characterized this year is that SEEU has a new governance of the University Board, by electing the new President of the Board, Dr. Klaus Tochtermann, who comes from the University of Kiel in Germany. In addition to the chairman of the Board, there is a new membership structure and this year the Board approved the new University Strategy 2021-25, which is published on the University website and is accessible to all.
"Undoubtedly the pandemic affected the decline of scientific productivity and we have a reduced number of scientific conferences and the participation of our staff in these conferences, but again this reduction is 20-25%. However, what we enjoyed is the tremendous progress in participating in scientific projects. Currently, the University participates in 15 international and local projects and all this thanks to the commitment of staff with international expertise and motivation" said to journalist Rector Bexheti.
