Standards, motivation and quality performance for success

From 23 to 25 August, all of the academic and administrative staff of South East European University participated in training sessions convened in Bansko, Bulgaria.

The training aimed at reviewing current trends at the University in order to maintain and develop standards in the fields of teaching, in administrative services and in student care. Members of the SEEU management, professors and administration leaders presented their approaches to quality enhancement by defining standards for academic and administrative performance. The staff worked in teams to discuss acceptable standards based on quality assurance instruments and what new steps to take in this regard.

Some of the topics discussed were: The research agenda-how to improve research activities: presentation and discussion; Promoting the practical application of knowledge for better preparation for the job market; Creating Internship learning outcomes per study program; Motivating students for class attendance – strategies, methods, techniques; Relation between PHD students and mentorships, how to achieve excellence; the Major Field Test for Computer Science: A comprehensive undergraduate outcomes assessment tool designed to measure critical knowledge and understanding obtained by students in a computer science degree program; the Rule on Third Cycle, etc.

In his presentation the Rector of SEEU, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, emphasized the importance of achieving the goals of the Strategic Plan 2018-2020, which aims towards augmenting and amplifying the regional and international profile of the University, particularly its distinction as a different model of higher education in Macedonia.

“There are different tendencies in the development of higher education and, in this regard, also in the development of universities: but we must develop and maintain sustainability and, at the same time, maintain quality teaching and education" said Rector Dika.

According to him, technology is developing with formidable speed and now we are on the verge of a new approach, which will change not only economic trends but also our way of life. We are on the verge of a new technological revolution, with significant implications for education.

“Our University is making concrete steps to be in harmony with these trends and is prepared to accomplish its goals and mission”, said Dika.

The Executive Advisor for Quality, Prof. Dr. Veronika Kareva, and the SEEU Quality Office took care for the good performance of the training. Training topics derive from the self-assessment procedure, which is completed each year by each staff member. This is the sixth time that all South East European University staff have participated in united trainings outside the university campus.
