Mr. Stjepan Mesić, Former President of Croatia Becomes an Honorary Member of the South East European University

The President of the Republic of Croatia in the period 2000-2010, Mr. Stjepan Mesić, becomes an Honorary Member of the South East European University in Tetovo.

The title Honorary Member was awardedin a solemn ceremony, held on 7 November 2012, at the South East European University inTetovo, attended by the Ambassador of Croatia, Mr. Zlatko Kramarić, the Ambassador of Albania Mr. Arben Çejku, Mayor of Tetovo Prof. Sadi Bexheti, Mayor of Gostivar Prof. Rufi Osmani, Mayor of Gjakova, diaspora members in Croatia, and a number of students and citizens of Tetovo.

In his introduction speech, SEEU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, among others, said that the biographical data of Mr. Mesić clearly reflects the personality of the man with a sensational political career, full of challenges and an effective mission that shows his courage in the defence of freedom, democracy and peace, always promoting dialogue and understanding between peoples.

“The presence of Mr. Mesić at our University today shows a special respect we have for him and the Croatian people. Moreover, I should also mention a fruitful interuniversity collaboration with the University of Zagreb, which has supported us in capacity building, especially in the field of scientific research,” said Rector Dika.

The former president of Croatia, Stjepan Mesiq, expressed his gratitude and satisfaction in receiving this title from a known university such as SEEU.

“Your presence honours me and makes ​​me proud of the work I have done. Croatia and Macedonia have done a lot of work in their latest history, but there are many other tasks to be completed. Our goal should be to fight against corruption and organized crime. We must build and strengthen true democracy and finally to continuously comply with human rights policy. Macedonia and Croatia did not have interstate disputes and this has made ​​the relations between the two countries to remain at the highest level” said President Mesić.

SEEU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, also awarded gratitude to the well known activist from the Tetovo region in Croatia, Mr. Idris Sulejmani.
