The South East European University in Tetovo officially became the first university in the region with an ecological building, which fully uses alternative energy sources. On Thursday 29 September, SEEU’s Rector Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, Minister of Environment of Macedonia, Mr. Abdylaqim Ademi and the Ambassador of Italy to Macedonia, Mr. Fabio Cristiani, officially opened the SEE University ecological building, with zero emission.
In his welcome speech, Rector Dika said that this building is a result of cooperation between two countries in correlation with the respective universities. This demonstrates the high degree of awareness in this phenomenon that directly affects the quality of our life.
“Today we are not concluding successfully a project, but we are opening a new page for the university, promotion and utilization of already existing capacities, to give our contribution in raising the awareness for environment, to contribute with our expertise in making Macedonia a country that promotes environmental technology. Our strategic aim is the development of the university into a centre which will deliver experiences to other universities, first of all, helping businesses and society in the improvement of living standards,” said among others in his welcoming speech, Rector Dika.
The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning of Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Abdylaqim Ademi, said that the Macedonian government and the Ministry supports such initiatives which contribute to improving environmental quality and economic development, by raising public awareness for a cleaner and healthy environment.
“This project is an example to follow in the future" said Minister Ademi.
The Ambassador of Republic of Italy to Macedonia Mr. Fabio Cristiani praised the cooperation between the two countries, stressing the fact that the Italian Government through the Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea has always supported initiatives aimed at improving environmental conditions
“SEE University represents an example how to implement such projects" said Ambassador Cristiani.
Also, within this activity a workshop was organized on "Transforming SEE University into Low Emission University Campus – 2020, Teaching for Sustainable Future", within in the framework of cooperation in the field of "Environment and Sustainable Development" between the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning of Republic of Macedonia and the Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea of Republic of Italy.
This project is supported by the Italian Embassy in Macedonia. The full realization of this project allows the South East European University to become a leading center for energy and environment in the region of the Balkans and also an example of how to implement eco-systems.
