“We were deeply saddened to learn about the death of Mr. Max van der Stoel, the former Dutch Foreign Minister, career diplomat and one of the pioneers for establishing the South Еast European University,“ said SEEU’s Rector Prof.Dr. Zamir Dika.
“ Yesterday, today and forever we will be grateful to our friend Max van der Stoel, promising that we will always follow his spirit in order to be prepared to develop concrete discussions within the framework for the standardization of education” said Rector Dika in his speech.
The President of the University Board , Dr. Dennis Farrington was not able to attend the commemorative session but he sent a letter that was read during the session.
“ SEEU would never even have opened without him and certainly the great difficulties we encountered in our first years were resolved largely through his hard work and determination. All those who work at SEEU owe their jobs to him. The University’s graduates are far better qualified then they would ever have been anywhere else in Macedonia,” is stated in the letter of Dennis Farrington.
The Ambassador of Netherlands H.E Simоne Filippini, representatives from the OSCE Mission to Skopje and many other personalities participated in the commemoration ceremony.
On the occasion of the death of Max van der Stoel a mourning book was opened and the flags on the Campus are at half-mast in his honor.
