The realisation of the Eco-Campus Project has started

The South East European University and the Italian company “D'Appolonia” signed a cooperation agreement for the realisation of the project on Tuesday 16 March 2010 in Tetovo.   This project will enable the realisation of low emissions of the university campus through the implementation of a Climate Action Plan. This project is the first of its kind in the Balkans and in other South East European countries as well.

The signing of the agreement was attended by the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning of Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Nexhati Jakupi, HE Mr. Donatino Marcon, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy in Skopje, and the representative of D'Appolonia that will realise the project, Marko Cremonini and a representative of the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea Mr. Christian Melis.

The Rector of SEEU, Academician Alajdin Abazi, said that the Project Eco-Campus is designed and will distinguish SEEU as the only University in the region with zero emissions of carbon dioxide. Rector Abazi said that the first phase of the project is the designing of the Climate Action Plan, which will create the feasibility study of the Eco-Campus Project. The next phase is intelligent building that will comprise the latest solution in aspect of automatisation and control and pilot solution for the photo-voltaic plant, which mainly will be used for research purposes in the filed of energy. One project result will be the determination of a study programme for formal education mainly at graduate studies and realisation of the research lab in the field of renewable energy resources. Ambassador Donatino Marcon said that the realisation of this project is a result of good cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning of Republic of Macedonia and South East European University. This is one of the projects that we would like to realise in cooperation with the institute Area from Trieste, with which we have a good cooperation, which has as a main objective the investment in renewable energy, energetic efficiency and treatment of waste.

The Macedonian Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Dr. Nexhati Jakupi, said that this Ministry has very close cooperation with the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea. The result of such cooperation is the signature of this agreement for realisation of the Eco-Campus Project. The project is in its initial phase, while from next year transfer of technologies will start. This, in practice, means that we are fulfilling our goals in the global plan on climate change.

The project’s goal is to put high objectives for energy efficiency and technologies for new energy resources at SEEU, said the director of D’Appolonia Mr. Marko Cremonini.
