High Commissioner Kairat Abdrakhmanov was received by Rector Acad. Prof. Dr. Abdylmenaf Bexheti accompanied by the Pro-Rector for International Cooperation and Research, Prof. Dr. Besa Arifi and the Secretary General, Dr. Xhevair Memedi. During the meeting, the excellent cooperation between the two institutions was emphasized, as well as the possibilities for joint activities were examined.
Commissioner Abdrakhmanov was interested in the functioning of SEEU, the achievements and challenges for the future, as well as the role of this institution as a model of higher education in North Macedonia and the region. Rector Bexheti informed Commissioner Abdrakmanov about the position of SEEU in the field of higher education in North Macedonia and in the region, the goals that this institution has to increase the number of international students. Rector Bexheti also stressed the fact that the University is a good example in the region for the functioning of multiculturalism and flexible use of languages. Commissioner Kairat Abdrakhmanov said he was impressed by what he saw and heard about the South East European University's complex impact on society. He stressed that next year (2023), when the RNM takes over the chairmanship of the OSCE, this institution should be the source of human and infrastructural potential for a successful chairmanship of the Organization.
The OSCE, then through the High Commissioner, Max van der Stoel, was a key actor and initiator of the establishment of the South East European University in 2001.
