Minister of Local Self-Government Suhejl Fazliu visited SEEU

On Monday (12th November 2018) the Minister of Local Self-Government in the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Suhejl Fazliu visited South East European University, in Tetovo. He met with the Rector of SEEU, Acad. Prof. Dr. Abdylmenaf Bexheti, with whom they talked about the ways of cooperation between the two institutions.

Minister Fazliu on this occasion informed Rector Bexheti about the activities and projects for cross-border cooperation funded by the IPA funds of the European Union, in particular with cross-border cooperation with Albania and Kosovo, where the University can apply for these funds from the Polog region.

“The possibilities are numerous, so communication and strengthen ties with the University, will be for the benefit of the institution, students and citizens throughout the region” said Minister Fazliu,

SEEU Rector Abdylmenaf Bexheti welcomed such initiatives that are coming from national level and stressed that the University has readiness and need to be involved in those projects, especially for initiatives that would have an impact at the municipal level. He underlined the need to increase the potential of institutional capacity with special emphasis on concrete trainings and specific areas, of the ‘in house’ type for the local self-government.

“Therefore, cooperation would be more useful if the academic knowledge is implemented in practice” emphasized among others, Rector Abdylmenaf Bexheti.

Rector Bexheti suggested to the Minister the possibility of drafting and applying for a project for cross-border cooperation among Republic of Macedonia, Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Albania within framework of Ecological and Mountain tourism, where the University has concrete research by doctoral candidates and staff of Faculty of Business and Economics.

The delegation of the Ministry of Local Self-Government also visited the SEEU Technological Park; where this delegation directly was informed by the management of TechPark about the short history, its current activities, purpose and vision.
