Martti Ahtisaari, after receiving the prize "Duart e Shpresës" (Hands of Hope) from NAAC for his
historical contribution to the independence of Kosovo, stated that with the independence of Kosovo a historical error was being corrected.
The prize, was symbolically awarded by the President of Kosovo, H.E. Fatmir Sejdiu and among prominent public individuals, SEEU’s Rector Academician Alajdin Abazi also participated and used this opportunity through the Executive Director of the National Albanian American Council, Mr. Avni Mustafaj, to invite the former Vice President of the United States, Mr. Al Gore to receive the title ‘Honoris Causa’ at SEEU in 2010. Mr. Gore is an acknowledged activist in the combat against climate changes and the protection of the environment and Nobel Peace Prize winner.

On Friday, 25th of September in New York, the National Albanian American Council (NAAC) awarded two honorable guests – first, the mediator that had a main role in finalizing the process for independence of Kosovo, the former Finish President and Nobel prize Laureate H.E. Martti Ahtisaari, and second, the renown photographer Fadil Berisha who artistically introduced the world to Albanian culture and values.
