Minister Edita Tahiri lectured at SEEU on ‘Balkan ethnic agreements for political stability’

On May 5th 2015 the Minister for Dialogue in the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Edita Tahiri, gave a lecture for the students and staff of South East European University (SEEU), in Tetovo. Her topic was ‘Balkan ethnic agreements for sustainable political stability’.

Speaking about developments in Kosovo before and after the war, she noted that "the declaration of independence was made in coordination with all Albanians, in Macedonia, the Presevo Valley and Montenegro". She said that the dialogue with Serbia, among others, has brought some good results for Kosovo as it pursues the path towards membership in Euro-Atlantic structures.

Minister Tahiri has asked the Government of Macedonia to work towards implementation of the Ohrid Agreement as a guarantee of the stability of the state. She announced that soon there will be a joint meeting between the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia.

She also directed a message to Albanian leaders in Macedonia. "The leaders of Albanian political parties from Macedonian should be unified on the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement. I send this message because some years after the war in Macedonia, the Ohrid Agreement still is not fully implemented". Minister Tahiri made these comments after several questions addressed by students that were attending the lecture.

The Rector’s Advisor for PR and Communication, Demush Bajrami, said that Minister Edita Tahiri has a rich political career, which started during the severe years of the Serbian occupation of Kosovo. She has been among the key actors of political changes in Kosovo and in the region of South East Europe since the end of the Cold War, and she is one of the founders of the movement for the independence of Kosovo - the Democratic League of Kosovo.
