Lecture of US Ambassador Paul D. Wohlers – SEEU a unique institution in Macedonia

‘It is always a pleasure to come to this University and meet with students, professors and staff in general", said the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Macedonia, Paul D. Wohlers, in a lecture that was held on Tuesday (25/11/2014) at South East European University in Tetovo.

Ambassador Wohlers's lecture was realized within the cycle of the Diplomatic Lectures Series, organized by the Max van der Stoel Scientific Research Institute of SEEU.

“These days you have celebrated the 13th anniversary of your establishment and on this occasion I want to congratulate you on that achievement. In the U.S. this week is Thanksgiving Day, when the American people express their thanks for their achievements and blessings in general. You, dear students, should be thankful for the opportunity that you have to study in this unique institution, where among other opportunities you have an equal opportunity to study in Albanian, English and Macedonian”, said Ambassador Wohlers.

Speaking about political developments in Macedonia, he stressed the importance of engaging all stakeholders for the benefit of the country. In this context, each individual must ask himself or herself what he or she has personally done to advance this goal. He said that everyone should be treated equally. “When the state provides equal treatment for each ethnic, religious or other social group, then the state can ask them to be loyal”, said Ambassador Wohlers.

At the end of the lecture, students and the Ambassador discussed current political and educational developments in Macedonia during a question-and-answer session.
