The Rector of South East European University, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, pointed out the importance of this moment by highlighting the role of this generation who soon are expected to leave lecture halls behind and enter their careers. “You are graduating at a time when society has a greater need then previously for generations who are competent in multiple fields. Better than anyone else, you will know the answer to a lot of issues that are the challenges of the time." Rector Dika added that the goal of this University remains the assurance and further development of quality in higher education, both in Macedonia and in the region, and to encourage student mobility in the European Higher Education Area. In these ways, he continued, we will have better prepared staff for the labour market, and to have educated individuals and trained them to contribute to economic development.
“Our academic staff have developed a unique institution of higher education here in the Republic of Macedonia; they have provided you with an education comparable to that in other European countries, and we hope that you will use this not only for your own benefit, but for the benefit of others,” said the President of Board of SEEU, Prof. Dr. Dennis Farrington.
In keeping with tradition, the best students of the generation were recognised; two of their number--Hristina Sibinovska and Vlora Memedi--spoke on their behalf.
“Through SEE University we became not only graduates, but we became global students and global citizens. We became aware of multiculturalism and international cooperation; we became citizens of the world,” said Ms. Sibinovska.
“The experience gained here is a combination of pleasing moments and difficult moments also, which will be a strong support in the realization of our dreams for tomorrow. All this was achieved thanks to mutual cooperation with all staff of the University towards achieving common aspirations,” said Ms. Memedi.
A special guest of this event was the winner of the "Voice of Italy", Ms. Elhaida Dani.
The artistic aspect of the ceremony was enriched by the performance of the Tetovo Choir, a quartet of classical musicians, and the singer Dr. Agim Poshka (who is a lecturer at SEEU), and who sang the traditional song of the university "Voice of knowledge".
