“Albanian Independence, cultivated in the collective memory of the Albanians, came as a logical consequence of the political platform of the Albanian National Cultural Renaissance. The Flag of Independence this year marks its 104th anniversary, and this day finds Albanians examining processes that identify their needs and aspirations for integration and civilization”, said the Rector of South East European University (SEEU), Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika. His remarks opened the formal ceremony to mark Albanian National Flag Day and the Independence Day of the Albanian State on 28 November. According to Rector Dika, Flag Day brings a spirit of emancipation and dynamism.
Speaking about the importance of this day, Prof. Dr. Zeqir Kadriu said that the national flag has been the subject of attempts at modification--such as the addition of the helmet of Skanderbeg, the Star of David and the Communist star--but all these did not manage to change the concept of the two-headed eagle on a red background. This historical flag dates from much earlier than the Independence Day in 1912, as Prof. Dr. Zeqir Kadriu stated. among other things.
The ceremony moderator, Doc. Dr. Demush Bajrami, said that “28 November, better than anything else, raised the country on the pedestal of national priorities, and made Albanians an integral part of the geographical, historical and cultural trunk of Europe”.
Prior to the addresses, a scene from the movie "Second November" was shown.
