Conference on the role of Civil Society in Political and Societal Transformation

“The Role of Civil Society in Political and Societal Transformation—Perspectives from Poland and Macedonia” was the topic of the conference organized on Thursday (April 30) by the Max van der Stoel Research Institute of South East European University and the National Democratic Institute, with the support of the Polish Embassy in the Republic of Macedonia.

The purpose of the conference was to emphasize the role of civil society in political and social transformations, making comparisons between the experiences of Macedonia and Poland.

The Conference was opened by the Pro-Rector for Planning and Entrepreneurship, Prof. Dr. Miroljub Shukarov, who welcomed the participants, assessing the conference to be very important.

The Director of the Max van der Stoel Research Institute, Prof. Dr. Veton Latifi, expressed his satisfaction with the organization of this conference, which highlighted the role of civil society and reforms that can be made in the country.

The Polish Ambassador to Macedonia, HE Jacek Multanowski, spoke on the transformation of politics in Poland, at the conference opening.

Chris Henshaw, Senior Resident Director of NDI Macedonia, spoke about the role of civil society in different socialprocesses.

Participating in the Conference were panellists who are recognized experts in the field. Among those contributing were Krzysztof Stanowski, the President of the Management Board of the Polish Solidarity Fund; Marek Rymsza, Deputy Director, Institute of Applied Social Sciences, University of Warsaw; Stevo Pendarovski, Professor of International Security, Foreign Policy and Globalization at the University American College Skopje; Mirjana Malevska-Professor, Doctoral School of Political Science, University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, Skopje and other experts. The University is grateful for their insights and participation.
