The student from Struga, Arbnora Zhuta, is the new Student Ombudsperson at South East European University. She won the majority of votes from SEEU's students in the elections for Ombudsperson held during the elections for the Student Parliament and Association. These were held in October and November, in both the SEEU campus in Tetovo and the SEEU branch in Skopje.
Students from each Faculty also directly elected members of the Student Parliament, who in the first constitutive meeting among themselves, elected (by secret ballot) Arta Demirali as President of the Association, Fuad Jonuzi as Vice-president, and Veton Iljazi as Finance and Administration Secretary.
“Our main goal will be to be the voice of the students, to be there for students whenever they will need us. We will try during this term to reactivate student life on campus which, for some reason, has faded. We will organize different kinds of activities, in order for each student to be included. We will create cooperation with all students, by enabling them to be included in all clubs of the Student Parliament, to give their contribution for a more qualitative and vital university”, said Ms. Demirali.
“What we intend is all about protecting student interests and their fundamental rights. Through our formal powers, we will react and we will defend our rights in a fair way, but if complaints are unfounded in evidence they will be treated as invalid. My vision is to have students who are pleased with the functioning of our university, who lead with their rights in a free and independent way”, said Ms. Zhuta.
According to the data from the Student Parliament Election Monitoring Commission, 44 students applied for candidacy to the Student Parliament, while for the position of the Student Ombudsperson 8 students applied. The SEEU Student Parliament and Association consists of 33 members.
846 students voted in the undergraduate and master studies for the position of the Student Ombudsperson; 815 ballots were valid and 31 ballots were declared invalid. For members of the Student Parliament and Association in total 740 students have voted, out which 660 votes were valid and 80 ballots were declared invalid.
The main mission of the SPA is to improve student life by providing opportunities for representation, development and quality services for all students.
