Joint Study Programme between SEEU and University of Ljubljana was Promoted

The new study programme in European Studies which will offer a joint degree from both South East European University and the University of Ljubljana, was promoted on Thursday (25 April 2013), in the Information Centre of the European Commission in Skopje.



Representatives of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Deputy Prime-Minister or European Integration, Fatmir Besimi, Head of Delegation of the EU Mission in Macedonia, Mr. Aivo Orav, Slovenian Ambassador to Macedonia, Mr. Rakovec, and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Bojko Bucar participated in the promotional event.

SEEU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, mentioned that the promotion of this joint degree, signifies the highest possible level of cooperation between two universities.

“Partnership between a university from a country that is a member of the European Union and a university from a country aspiring to be included in the European family, should serve as a good example that shows that through science and education we can more easily overcome political barriers and integration process have a faster pace”, said Rector Dika.

Since the President of the Republic of Macedonia was visiting Canada, he delegated his advisor Dimitar Mirchev, who read his speech specifically for this event.

In the President’s speech, amongst others, he mentioned that such study programs will prepare students for independent, professional and analytical work in the field of European issues, through an integrated approach.

“I am convinced that the academic staff of both universities will successfully cope with this professional approach, and transfer knowledge to future generations,” was stated in the letter of President Ivanov.

“We have a long standing commitment in supporting the South East European University, dating back from the date of its creation and continuing by supporting the development of its academic activities. Therefore, we are particularly happy to assist to the creation of this new programme dedicated to European studies”, Head of Delegation of the EU Mission to Macedonia, Ambassador Аivo Orav.

“We are present in this promotion, where we share a joint goal – the presence of European ideas among young people and new academic generations with the main goal for them to be the main pillar of our society that will challenge this process and will be the carriers of change and prosperity towards Pro-European societies,” said Deputy Prime-Minister for European Affairs Dr. Fatmir Besimi.

“Cooperation between the two faculties is also a part of the rich mosaic of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries," said the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Macedonia, Mr. Branko Rakovec.

The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Bojko Bucar said that cooperation with the Faculty of Public Administration and Political Sciences began three years ago with the signing of the cooperation agreement was realized with designing of first and second cycle study programmes and mobility of students and academic staff. After graduation, students will be prepared for the labour market at the European, national, local level and non-governmental sector.

The Dean of Faculty of Public Administration and Political Sciences, Prof. Dr. Elena Andreevska, also emphasized the importance of this cooperation, with the hope that cooperation will continue in all spheres. She thanked everyone for their contribution and presence in this promotion.

According to the Shanghai ranking, the University of Ljubljana is ranked among the 500 best universities in the world.
