The study program has been compiled in that way so as to provide students access in the field of language and literature while relying on the latest trends in these study fields.
Students have the opportunity of acquiring broader knowledge having in consideration the variety of subjects to be offered.
Courses included in this program represent perspectives which are based on theories that are closely related to the practical application in the area of language, culture, arts, education and communication.
The main objectives are as follows:
- Prepare students for the position of leaders in educational, cultural and scientific institutions in the country and abroad;
- Prepare students to build their careers in their respective specialized fields, in the public, private and non-governmental sector;
- Offer a series of modules which include the grounds of knowledge and get the students closer to professions which more or less are connected to the the sphere of education, culture and teaching.
- Enable the acquisition of research skills in the field of linguistics and literature.
- Enable the acquisition of linguistic and literary experiences and apply them in the public, private and non-governmental sector;
- Develop students’ critical thinking skills.
- Enable students to actively get involved in lectures and carry out independent research in all aspects of social, educational, cultural and scientific organizations.
- Enable the development of personal communication, research and other skills necessary for employment.
- During the program, students have the opportunity to undertake the practical work sessions (internship), which would help them apply their skills and knowledge acquired during their course of study.
- The program composition aims at balancing fundamental knowledge and specific professional skills. 

Graduates from the program Albanian Language, Culture and Literature, pursue the fulfillment of their professional criteria in various different fields of employment. Our main focus is on the preparation of teachers of Albanian language and literature, and all of those that will manage to graduate from our department at SEE University with a good success, will have the potential of becoming good teachers of Albanian Language, Culture and Literature. However, our undergraduate study program does not focus only on the linguistic aspect. We also prepare specialists and researchers of the Albanian literature and culture. Our graduates will be well-prepared for the labor market. Indeed, language, social, cultural and artistic elements, comprising the field of Albanology, imply that graduates will be well-prepared to serve and work as teachers, instructors, translators, writers, authors, journalists, etc. 

Knowledge and understanding

Acquires general knowledge in the field of linguistics, literature, methodology and translation. With regard to the field of linguistics, students acquire basic knowledge on dialects, language structures, literary norms, the position of language in the society, contacts with other languages and the history of languages.
As regards the field of literature, students gain insight about oral literature, theory of literature, genres, and literary directions, as well as literary periods starting from ancient literature to contemporary literature. The students are introduced to contemporary methods and strategies in teaching and verbal communication. They also gain knowledge about language styles, semantics and types of translation.   

Applying knowledge and understanding

Can be applied in many public state institutions, in teaching, working as teachers and instructors in primary and secondary schools. The knowledge from the field of language and literature can be utilized for research in institutes of Albanology; for writing texts of different genres, in journalism; for editing texts in print and electronic media, as well as any kind of text in any genre and style; simultaneous interpretation in private and public institutions, such as bilingual municipalities, ministries and other governmental bodies, courts of law, and other similar institutions; in international organizations, translation of books and other materials, etc. 

Making judgement

They possess skills to assess and compile curricula and syllabi in the field of languages and literature in primary and secondary schools. They are also able to evaluate and compare translations from other languages; assess proofreading and editing of various different literary texts and other types of text. They can also evaluate literary works from the aspect of composition, by separating cultural and artistic values of the works in question. They can be chosen by some professional juries in the field of linguistics, folklore and literature to assess linguistic research, or genres such as poetry, drama, etc. They are also able to get engaged in research teams, compile lists of textbooks based on the readers’ age, etc. 

Communication skills

Are able to compile and assess plans and curricula in the field of language and literature in primary and secondary schools; have the ability to compare and contrast translations from one language to another; can assess proofreading and editing of different types of texts; can assess works from the aspect of their composition, by taking a critical approach towards them and by highlighting cultural and artistic values of the given work. They can be selected in some professional jury in the field of linguistics, folklore, and literature, in order to review language research Works, poetry, narrations, plays, etc. They are able to get engaged in research teams, compile lists of readers based on their specific age, etc. 

Learning skills

They possess the necessary skills to teach a grammar and/or a literature class, in accordance with syllabi and curricula in respective schools; they can also translate scientific texts and artistic literature in languages in contact, i.e. in their mother tongue and vice versa. They can also take part in scientific discussions, in seminars, get updated with latest trends in the field of languages, literature, teaching and translation. They are also able to write reviews on school programs and textbooks, and other theatrical pieces or literary works, mainly poems and novels. They have professional skills to select appropriate readers for kids and grades. They can become spokespeople of political parties or other institutions and organizations.

    Course objectives: - Introduction to Albanian popular literature and course contents; - Enable students detect and identify the literary characteristics and genres. - Introduction to verses and the oral literature poetry; - Gain skills and abilities to analyze popular creations and identify the era of the emergence and development of this specific kind of literature.
  • [CAL-104] [6 ECTS] Phonetics and Phonology 1
    Course objectives: - Acquire general knowledge in the field of language, phonetics and phonology in Albanian, including the methodology of studying the high values of language culture. - Acquire knowledge in the field of the Albanian language and culture and apply it in research activities within the Albanologic institutes. - Gain writing skills regarding general texts, monographs, reviews, get acquainted with the handwriting and language standards, historic movements and the establishment of the standard Albanian language. - Acquire basic knowledge about the phonetics and phonology of the Albanian language through a serious research presentation of the whole material by applying the most recent methods and strategies (acoustic and visual means) and verbal communication.
  • [CAL-103] [6 ECTS] Dialectology 1
    Apart from the general information provided on the subject of dialectology as such, the main topics include the historical development of dialects, classification of dialects and sub-dialects in all Albanian regions; the dialectological changes from the phonetic, morphologic, syntactic, lexical and phraseological aspect and also dialectological transcription is also studied. Other characteristics of Albanian dialects and sub-dialects are also analyzed.

    Course objectives: - Continuation of Phonetics and Phonology 1; - Study items: voice and phonemes, transformation of sounds and divison based on speech organs; - Division of sounds (vowels and consonants); - The accent of the Albanian language ; - Syllables and types of syllables in Albanian;
  • [CAL-202] [6 ECTS] Dialectology 2
    - Dialectological transcription, signs for expressing phonemes; - Historic development of dialects; - Phonetic and grammatical characteristics; - Synchronic and diachronic descriptions of dialects; - Relations between dialects and standard language; - Dialectic features incorporated to enrich, cleanse and develop the language; - Social formations that influence the division of the language; - The ancient dialects of the Arberesh living in Italy, Greece, Ukraine, Zadar, etc. will be studied in particular because they have maintained some archaic forms of the Albanian language and are of great interest to the Albanian dialectology today.

    Course objectives: - Get introduced to the beginnings of the Albanian literature - Get introduced to the nature of topics and motifs of ancient literature - Get introduced to the language and style of the language in this period - Gain knowledge about works and authors of this period up to the era of national renaissance - Acquire knowledge and skills and abilities to recognize the social and cultural events in which this type of literature developed.

  • [CAL-302] [6 ECTS] Morphology 1
    Course objectives: - Students gain general knowledge in the field of language, namely morphology and they are acquinated with morphemes in Albanian. - Acquire the methodology and the study of great linguistic values in the field of words and their content; - Get informed about the history of the Albanian language and culture, thus gaining more knowledge about morphemes, basic grammatical notions and categories, or parts of speech, such as nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, as well as particles, articles, linking words, etc. - Students get acquainted with the role of the words in a sentence. - All parts of speech are carefully examined and studied within this subject.
  • [CAL-304] [6 ECTS] Albanian Literature of the Renaissance 1
    Course objectives: - Get acquainted with general characteristics of the period of our national renaissance. - Introduction to romanticism and artistic literature of the time; - Acquire knowledge in the recognition of all the characteristics and features of this period; - Acquire knowledge about the influence of European Enlightenment and renaissance in the Albanian literature of the national renaissance period. - Get acquainted with the development and activities of romanticism of the Arberesh colony. - Get acquainted with the Albanian verse, the literary genre and poetry from this period of the Albanian literature.
  • [EAL-501] [6 ECTS] Lexicology and Semantics 1
    This subject deals with the characteristics of Albanian words as well as their historic development and values. The lexical semantic of the Albanian language: ways of its development and the concept of the system in semantics. The main categories of semantics: the lexical meaning and lexical movement, structures of lexical meaning, the theory of lexical and semantic fields. Phenomena in lexical semantics: the derivation of lexical meanings in Albanian, emotional nuances as components of meaning, semantic movements and language tropes. Semantic movements in word-formation. Types of lexical meaning and their explanation.

  • [CAL-404] [6 ECTS] Albanian Literature of the Renaissance 2
    Course objectives: - Introduction to the works of Albanian authors of the national renaissance; - Introduction to cultural – social circumstances in which those works were developed; - Acquire abilities to analyze the relation between the text and context; - Be able to perform a comparative analysis; - The possibility of interrelating the acquired knowledge with the theoretical-literary terminology; - Generate skills to study the Albanian literature from the era of romanticism within the context of general literature;
  • [EAL-601] [6 ECTS] Lexicology and Semantics 2
    The second part of the program includes: homonyms, synonyms, and antonyms in Albanian language. Paradigmatic groups of words based on their construction and meaning: sentences formed with and/or without affixes, compound and subordinate clauses. The phraseology of the Albanian language has a special place in this course: words, collocations, phraseological units, classification and usage of phraseological units in speech. The lexicon of the standard Albanian language. The development of Albanian lexicography, including the history of the publication of dictionaries, classification of dictionaries, and the theoretical and practical work in the compilation of those dictionaries.

Through this subject, students acquire knowledge about the correct usage of the Albanian language in accordance with linguistic norms in different spheres of social life, as future teachers of Albanian language in schools and other educational institutions. In addition, this knowledge represents the basis of the extension and further development of linguistic knowledge in general.

    Course objectives: - Get acquainted with the post-independence literature. - Get acquainted with the authors and writers of this period. - Gain knowledge and abilities in understanding the poetry of the most renowned representatives of this period. - Gain knowledge and abilities in understanding the novels of the youngest representatives of this period. - Acquire skills to understand the theoretical-critical phenomena of the authors of this period.
  • [CAL-505] [6 ECTS] Methodology of Albanian Language
    The subject aims at enabling students to transfer their acquired knowledge and skills as easy as possible. Current teaching methods and forms make it possible for everyone to transfer their knowledge and skills through the most current forms of work foreseen in contemporary didactics. This excludes the old-fashioned forms of work, and students will get acquinated with the completely new and modern ways of teaching and learning. This includes, but is not limited to, videos, internet, modern teaching, learning and classroom management tools such as Google Classroom, and even social media networks such as Facebook, etc.

Through this subject, students acquire knowledge about the correct usage of the Albanian language in accordance with linguistic norms in different spheres of social life, as future teachers of Albanian language in schools and other educational institutions. In addition, this knowledge represents the basis of the extension and further development of linguistic knowledge in general. In addition, it deals with main and subordinate clauses as well as the direct and indirect speech and the passive voice.

    Course objectives: - Get acquainted with the circumstances in which modern lietarture emerges and develops. - Get acquainted with the characteristics of styles, types and literary genres. - Get acquainted with the representatives of this period and their works. - Acquire skills for analyzing concrete texts. - Acquire skills for comparative approach and analysis of the relation text – context.

    This is an activity related to diploma work and professional project. Students are required to complete a project, usually related to their diploma work, to outline the structure of the project, to do research and write down the report.

    Course objectives: - introduction to linguistics as a scientific discipline - as a theoretical framework for linguistic research; - the beginnings and the history of linguistics as a scientific discipline; - the contribution of linguistic schools in general linguistics; - introduction to the main representatives of these schools;
  • [CAL-701] [6 ECTS] Overview of the World Literature
    Course objectives: - Introduction to the greatest achievements in world literature as well as application of theoretical knowledge in concrete texts - Introduction to the periodization and classification of world literature (genres, representatives, characteristics, etc.) - Get acquainted with samples from world literature seen from the theoretical perspective and the possibility of application in literary works. - Development of skills and abilities to compare and contrast the main periods and authors.
  • [CAL-702] [6 ECTS] Stylistics and Pragmatics
    Language serves as a means of communication. It manipulates with a series of tools in order to realize this specific aim. Those include: morphemes, words, collocations, etc. which help realize a real communication. This is after all the main aim of today’s system of communication, i.e. to reveal elements which enhance and specify the language of the speaker. All this makes the students capable of communicating at a different level and distinguishes them from the speakers of informal language. Therefore, the aim of this subject is the organization of language varieties expressed in various different texts.

Semester 8

  • [CTAM1050] [6 ECTS] Balkan Linguistics
    In modern linguistics, since the beginning of the 20th century, the so called League of Balkan Languages drew special attention. Languages being part of this group have developed a system of common features (i.e. not occasional and spontaneous), which have been called Balkanisms. I order for a linguistic phenomenon to be called Balkanism, it has to appear in at least two or three Balkan languages. Such common appearances can be noticed at any grammatical level, such as phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicography, etc.
  • [CTTA70] [6 ECTS] History of Albanian Language
    The subject encompasses a large portion of the program from the history of written Albanian language, culture and literature. Detailed information regarding the Albanian alphabet is included in this subject. Students will learn about parts of ancient times, beginning with the medieval age and up to date. They will be acquainted with the history of the Albanian language, its alphabet, as well as recent achievements in the field of Albanian language and culture.
  • [CAL-801] [6 ECTS] Comparative Literature
    The aim of the subject is to introduce students to comparative concepts and the current development of modern literature in general. Through this subject, students will be introduced to comparative ways in modern Albanian literature (i.e. Albanian authors and writers) against other authors and writers. This will help them analyze works from the critical, comparative and contrastive aspect.
