Within the ceremony the bust of the founder Max van der Stoel was unveiled in the presence of his son and daughter.
A special acknowledgement were given to the representatives of the diplomatic core in Macedonia, universities and institutions, remarkable professors and individuals and Michael A. McRobbie –President of the University of Indiana, USA was confirmed the title Doctor Honoris Causa. There was also an exhibition of 100 photos –10 for every year and a 10 minute documentary film was shown for the 10 years existence of SEEU.
The day before (18 November 2011), by awarding appreciations and a wrist watch by the President of the University Board to all (66) staff members, who for ten years remained with the University, and by awarding a certificate of appreciation to three retired professors from SEEU by the Rector of SEEU Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika, officially started the activities for marking the 10th anniversary of the South East European University. Moreover, the last generation of Doctors of Science that successfully defended their doctoral thesis were promoted in this ceremony.
On this occasion, SEEU’s Rector Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika said that the University continues to be dedicated to its mission-promoting higher education in the Albanian language and providing multilingual and multicultural education in Macedonia.
The Minister of Education and Sciences, Mr. Pance Kralev was present in the ceremony and according to him, the University succeeded to give a historical dimension of education and the multiethnic character in Macedonia although it exists for only 10 years.
According to the President of the University Board Prof. Dr Dennis Farrington “This University is of course the only private-public not-for-profit institution in the country and the region, with its own organizational and business model, operating real time risk assessment and strategic planning. We are constantly seeking to find new ways of collaborating with government and other entities to secure financial sustainability and to continue to offer high quality programmes which will benefit both the individual and the economy, and at the same time making a meaningful contribution to the protection of the environment.”
