SEEU observed March 7th - the Day of the Albanian School

South East European University conducted a solemn ceremony to commemorate March 7th - the Day of the Albanian School and Teachers’ Day. The commemoration was held in the presence of the Rector, Prof. Dr. Zamir Dika; the Provost, Prof. Dr. Andrew Goodspeed; academic and administrative staff; and a large body of students.

The Executive Advisor for Communication, Doc. Dr. Demush Bajrami, opened the formal ceremony to mark the Day of the Albanian School and Teachers’ Day. In his remarks, he noted that "March 7th is a day rich in history for our education, but as a society we have to build ourselves with an ongoing and developmental performance. Therefore, the mission of March 7 continues to be relevant up to this day."

Prof. Dr. Zeqir Kadriu, Head of the Albanian Department, stressed the need to make a distinction between the first institutional Albanian school and the first beginnings of education in Albanian. "Albanians had--even before the opening of the first Albanian school--developed educational activities, but the opening of the first Albanian school was an institutional act that marked the beginning of the institutionalization of education for Albanians”, he said.

To conclude this ceremony, students of the Faculty of Languages, Cultures, and Communications performed recitations of Albanian poetry.
